What is the Role?

The Asset Operations team within SSE Energy Solutions operates many types of complex Distributed Energy (DE) networks. This includes the operation of several heat networks around the UK distributing heat, cooling, and electricity to our customers. Operating these networks over their whole life in an efficient and effective manner is core to our overall operational, financial and commercial success. The Heat Networks Asset Manager is at the heart of realising this success by ensuring that we have the right long-term asset management strategies in place to ensure that all the heat networks are performing to the best of their ability.

The Asset Manager for Heat Networks will ensure the right information and data is generated then consolidated so that we can then make informed decisions around future operating & maintenance strategies. Your focus will be on the energy management of each network and the performance of energy generation within the wider network infrastructure. This includes reporting on energy flow of networks, energy centre plant, network efficiencies and network losses/ heat gains. You’ll work with a range of stakeholders, supporting the Senior Asset Manager and the wider asset operations team to address any factors that could impact the efficient operation of our networks and actively manage risks.

Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Internal & external analytical reporting – produce & collate data from energy, BMS and financial sources (against guaranteed standards & network performance KPIs) to support modelling and guide recommendations
  • Contribute to regulatory requirements associated with the operation of our networks including CHP Quality Assurance (CHPQA), EU ETS, RHI, Heat Trust Audits and Environmental Licence requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with our service providers on service offering and contractual arrangements

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

– Experience in building services, distributed energy or heat networks with knowledge of energy management best practices, energy efficiency and/ or renewable technologies. You might be a qualified engineer, chartered or working towards a chartership but this isn’t essential if you have demonstrable expertise

– Knowledge of CIBSE CP1 – Heat Networks Code of Practice, and metering in the gas/ electric utilities.

– Experience processing/ interpreting a range of energy performance data from metering, BMS, additional energy and financial sources. Taking this data, making it presentable, communicate recommendations and strategies

– Able to communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, making sure technical information is presented accurately and effectively understood by the audience
