SSE Enterprise team, has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Commercial to join the team. As a member of the Enterprise Commercial team you will be leading the DE (Distributed Energy) commercial team reporting jointly to the Enterprise Commercial Director and to the MD of DE to develop and implement an innovative, growth focused commercial function.

You will provide leadership and direction to the DE commercial team, within a matrix structure, and deliver the full potential of our assets while continually reviewing and developing the commercial function from pre-contract through to asset operation.

You will be responsible for developing and supporting opportunities to maximise the earning potential and you will help deliver gross profit budgets for the business.

The key responsibilities will be;

– You will actively develop a safety culture that will constructively challenge unsafe behaviour and publicise positive behaviour and ensure that the SSE Safety culture is embedded within the DE Commercial function.

– You will have overall responsibility for the Commercial risk of all acquisitions, projects, and supplier contracts. Assessing the risks to the business of any new commercial opportunities. Observing and complying with SSE Standard Operating Procedures and Enterprise governance processes.

– You will lead, engage, develop and manage the team in order to deliver DE’s business plan whilst also leading all commercial activities and implement commercial strategies across the business to ensure that profitable business growth is accelerated and that commercial success is achieved.

– You will work closely with Procurement to secure supply chains, and use pre and post commercial experience together with commercial modelling resources to ensure the correct projects are taken through governance to asset construction and ownership.

– You will oversee the production and maintenance of accurate project and business unit risk review schedules, ensuring buy in and input of key disciplines and stakeholders.

This is a challenging and rewarding role. We are looking for candidates with the commercial acumen, tenacity, and motivation to succeed in the complex and emerging environment of Distributed Energy solutions.

Your Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have;

– A Degree or Masters or equivalent qualified in relevant subject or equivalent proven experience.

– Strong entrepreneurial skills and a natural ability to spot opportunities for revenue generation.

– You will lead the commercial teams in the energy sector and so a background in this area would be advantageous, as would a background of experience in making recommendations on the commerciality of opportunities by interpreting market trends, understanding power and international energy markets, and working with both internal Group companies and external third parties.

– You should have experience in constructing / negotiating partnering arrangements. You will be accountable for ensuring the commercial strategic plan is fit-for-purpose against Enterprise’s overall business objectives and risk appetite.

– Experience of M&A strategy, due diligence and merger integration.
