What is the Role?
As Ecology Advisor, you’ll provide support to the Ecology Manager who is responsible for managing the ecological requirements across a portfolio of development and construction projects, with a primary focus on onshore and offshore wind farms, primarily in the UK and Ireland.
You’ll support the preparation and review of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitat Management Plans (HMPs) and Monitoring Plans/Strategies (particularly with regards to ornithology). You’ll also undertake related liaison, negotiations and meeting attendance with regulatory bodies and consultees e.g. SNH and RSPB, as well as providing advice and guidance to relevant SSE Project and Consent Managers, ensuring consistency of approach between projects.
In support of the above, you’ll also be expected to support the scoping and preparation of tender documents, assessment of tender submissions and for the commissioning and management of external consultants. You’ll provide input to government consultations and onshore/offshore sector related conferences, working groups and workshops, representing SSE interests at all times.
In addition, you may be required to provide support to other SSE projects and be involved in all stages of projects from early development to construction, commissioning and operation, ensuring SSE meet with all environmental legislative requirements and any commitments made by SSE via planning submissions and consents.
What do I need?
We are looking for someone with extensive relevant experience, who is educated to degree level in Ecology or Environmental Science, as well as being a member of CIEEM/IEMA or other relevant environment-related professional body. We’ll also consider applicants who are actively working towards membership or are able to demonstrate the necessary skill to achieve membership. Individuals with other environmental degrees will also be considered providing you have relevant experience and knowledge, in particular knowledge on ecology and ornithology, can be demonstrated.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be essential, and you must be proficient in the use of common software tools (Word, Excel etc). You’ll pride yourself as being a strong team player with a keen interest in continuous professional development and be willing to take on new challenges.
