About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, London or Dublin

Salary: £51,600 – £77,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Our in-house Legal Team work to ensure that all business actions and commitments are legally sound and robust, while at all times reinforcing a culture of integrity, quality, responsibility and ethical behaviour. In this role you’ll operate as a true partner to the Renewables business, building key relationships across the Renewables business, providing advice on regulatory and statutory obligation, all whilst helping the Renewables business achieve its strategic goals.

You’ll take key accountability for: –

– Working collaboratively with our procurement and commercial teams, and supporting the procurement of a range of contracts through negotiation, implementation and delivery. Contracts may be based on standard suites (FIDIC, NEC, LOGIC) or bespoke agreements e.g. for the design of goods and services, installation of major components, vessel provision, etc.

– Providing strategic legal advice on a range of non-contentious matters including contract interpretation and assessment of claims and variations through the project execution phases.

– Building strong working relationships with the Renewables business with a continuous focus on providing a high level of services, developing a reputation for providing prompt, thorough and expert advice that adds value to the business.

– Collaborating with colleagues both internally within the SSE legal team, and externally with partners and legal counsel.

– Strong focus on continuous improvement, both in the delivery of the services we provide to the business but also in terms of personal development through departmental training, external training and CPD.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have: –

– Qualified lawyer in Scotland or England, with either prior experience of or desire to work in-house, with at least 5 years PQE experience.

– Broad experience of construction law matters including: familiarity with contracts (FIDIC, NEC, Logic, etc), O&M agreements, design, supply, installation and vessel contracts, experience of insurance, an understanding of the finance market and project financing arrangements, as well as familiarity with the CfD framework would be advantageous.

– Proven ability to negotiate and influence on complex issues.

– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong and collaborative partnerships based on trust.

– Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to provide legal advice on both day-to-day matters and more complex issues in a risk-aware and solutions focused way.

– Keen interest in the renewables sector, and a passion for helping us meet our net zero goals.
