It is an exciting time to be involved in a critical period of Women’s football off the back of the recent World Cup and with the upcoming Olympics and home soil European campaigns.

    The Game Plan for Growth sets out an ambitious agenda including the professionalisation of the Women’s League structure in England.  Developing clubs with the professional infrastructure to identify, attract and importantly develop women’s footballers is a key component for the overall development of players within the system.

    We are looking to recruit a World Class Physiotherapist who can work collaboratively with England Teams and Club Sports Science and Medical Department Staff to support the mitigation and rehabilitation of injury through screening, profiling and injury management for potential Lionesses from across the upper phase age grades who are supported through International Development Programmes.  The successful post holder will also work with and through TASS to both develop a strategy to deliver physiotherapy services whilst also monitoring uptake and standards of clinical delivery through the TASS performance network.

    Role Description
    • To lead and oversee the strategic delivery of world class physiotherapy services to players in the England Women’s pathway which supports the coaching process, talent identification & provides performance advantages through optimal availability of players.
    • Assist in the development of FA medical strategy to support delivery through TASS and work with Women’s Tier 1,2 and 3 clubs to drive standards of physiotherapy delivery across the game
    • Delivery of world leading physiotherapy and other therapy services to pathway players as required
    Key Accountabilities
    • Assist in the development of an overall pathway strategy for physiotherapy which encompasses best practice in all aspect of physiotherapy services including soft tissue and other relevant therapies
    • Lead the operational delivery of physiotherapy and related services to the Women’s Lioness pathway,including TASS, and WSL Academies
    • Work collaboratively with SS&M staff within England and Tier 1 to 3 Clubs to support player profiling, Return to Play and Individual Development Plans.
    • Support the development of the physical components of the England player profile
    • Support the delivery of key internal and external research projects which underpin future player development
    • Contribute to the development of an overall strategy for performance medicine in the women’s pathway which encompasses best practice in all aspects of preparation & player management
    • Assist in the development of guidelines, policies and related educational content for all aspects of performance medicine in the women’s pathway
    • Close working relationships with peers in the pathway to enable knowledge of and management of pathway players
    • When required work closely with Women’s national physiotherapists and support staff to ensure a cohesive multi-disciplinary approach at all times
    • Develop and maintain an extensive network of organisations and individuals outside football with whom to share and develop best practice
    • Recruitment, development and retention of Physiotherapists and related services for the women’s pathway
    • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities
    • Supports all elements related to Safeguarding in the pathway and any administration duties as required to support the CMO in ensuring appropriate auditing is completed – in particular to minimum standards
    • Assists in organisation and management of medical and physiotherapy equipment supplied and used in the pathway
    What we are looking for


    • Chartered physiotherapist with HCPC registration
    • Extensive experience as a lead team physiotherapist in elite sport and in managing and participating in multi-disciplinary teams
    • Outstanding academic and applied knowledge of contemporary practice in physiotherapy & rehabilitation
    • Track record of successfully integrating into established and developing coaching teams
    • Excellent physiotherapy and rehabilitation delivery skills


    • Management of teams of medical professionals
    • Experience in international sport
    • Experience in international or club football
