The role
SSE Power Distribution operates two electricity distribution networks and one transmission network, covering 123,000 substations and 127,000 km of cables and lines. We deliver power to 30% of the UKs landmass, serving 3.5 million customers.
Several islands off Scotlands west and north coasts are connected via submarine cables and supported by backup diesel power stations. Were currently offering an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Fitter at our Battery Point and Arnish Power Stations in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis.
You will
– Be responsible for performing routine maintenance, undertaking fault finding and repairs on the fixed installations of the power stations
– Plan and organise maintenance work and assist with general day to day tasks within the stations, whilst they are operational.
– Be part of the team that operate the stations and participate in a standby rota (1in5), full training will be provided for this.
As part of the company ethos, you may be asked to carry out duties out with your main core skills but within your capabilities, therefore a degree of flexibility is required.
Your main base will be Stornoway, however there may be a requirement to travel infrequently to others located in the Western Isles, Inner Hebrides and Northern Isles to support the maintenance of other island power stations.
You have
– Experience maintaining electrical plant and systems, electrical installation and testing. As well as experience of working with single and three phase systems including motors and pumps, and control and instrumentation systems.
– Experience of working with generation station assets and HV systems would be an advantage.
– Good team working skills and a positive attitude towards health and safety in the workplace.
– Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems would be an advantage, however not considered essential for the role.
– A full UK driving license is an essential requirement for this role.
