The role
At SSE Thermal, our Grid Services Team supports a diverse portfolio of development, construction, and generation projects across Great Britain and Ireland. The team is central to delivering Low Carbon and Net Zero generation by managing gas, electrical, and CO₂/H₂ transport and storage connections, ensuring Grid Code compliance and identifying new revenue opportunities such as ancillary services.
As a Grid Services Engineer, youll provide technical expertise on electrical grid and gas connections for both operational assets and development projects. Youll help shape connection strategies, manage contracts, and work closely with network operators and internal teams to deliver reliable, low-carbon energy solutions.
You will
– Develop and manage gas, grid, and CO₂/H₂ connection strategies, focusing on low-carbon projects in Ireland.
– Oversee connection contracts and liaise with transmission, distribution, and gas network operators.
– Provide technical leadership within multi-disciplinary project teams.
– Conduct grid feasibility assessments and technical appraisals of potential acquisitions.
– Identify and recommend additional revenue opportunities for operational and development sites.
You have
– Degree or Masters in Engineering, with solid technical knowledge of the GB and Irish transmission, distribution, and power generation systems.
– Experience managing grid, gas, or emerging CO₂/H₂ connections within a TSO/DNO, generator, or developer environment.
– Strong analytical, problem-solving, and commercial awareness skills, with a proactive approach to technical and business challenges.
– Effective communicator and team player with proven ability to lead, collaborate, and share expertise across multi-disciplinary teams.
– Passion for the energy industry and commitment to driving low-carbon, sustainable solutions.
