Base Location: Glasgow or Perth

The role
This role is a key member of the team responsible for the preparation of SSE plcs listed group Annual Report and Accounts (“ARA”) and Interim Results Statement. The Group Statutory Reporting Accountant will work primarily on specific accounting areas for the group financial statements, including note preparation for the accounts, and work to enhance documentation and controls. The role involves working to tight deadlines to meet reporting deadlines. The role requires regular liaison with SSE Business Units and the external auditor and is responsible for the preparation and audit requirements of elements of the Group accounts and additionally certain subsidiary statutory accounts. The role reports to the Statutory Reporting Manager and involves working closely with the Director of Group Reporting and other senior Finance contacts. To do this effectively, you will need an understanding of SSEs markets and operations, IFRS and other relevant GAAP.
This role is a great opportunity to enhance and develop skills within the Finance Skills Compass including power skills like problem solving, industry knowledge, attention to detail, time management and relationship building, in addition to technical skills around the group consolidation model, subsidiary financial statements and technical accounting.
You will
– Prepare the disclosure and supporting information for key notes within the consolidated financial statements of the SSE plc group in accordance with the ARA, Preliminary Results and Interim Results within tight timelines and manage disclosure notes for the Group through the audit process.
– Prepare subsidiary financial statements and manage the audit for certain corporate and holding entities.
– Support the Statutory Reporting Manager and Technical Reporting Manager on financial reporting projects, such as the adoption of new accounting standards, group investment and divestment activities and replacement of the consolidation reporting tool.
– Assist in implementation of ‘UK SOX requirements for financial statements process. Ensure compliance with all applicable standards, legislation and code.
You have
– Fully qualified as a Chartered Accountant with 1 to 3 years Post Qualified Experience in a Financial Reporting or External Audit role.
– Fully up to date knowledge of accounting standards and corporate governance requirements with experience of subsidiary statutory reporting.
– Interpretative and analytical skills to assimilate complex issues into reporting and accounting solutions with the ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously.
– Proficiency in MS Office applications.
