As a core member of the IT Leadership Team (ITLT), you’ll help shape SSE’s digital and transformation agenda, ensuring investment is focused on the outcomes that matter most to the business. This role is less about reporting and more about driving better decisions, influencing investment choices, creating transparency and ensuring accountability for value delivery across a complex and federated operating model.
This is an opportunity for a finance leader who wants to operate at the intersection of technology, strategy, transformation and finance, helping shape how SSE invests in and delivers technology.
You will
– Act as the Finance partner to the Group CIO and a key member of the IT Leadership Team, working closely with Business Unit CIOs, Finance Directors and senior leaders to support technology strategy and investment decisions.
– Bring a strong commercial lens to technology investment, challenging value, prioritisation, affordability and trade-offs.
– Influence and challenge Business Unit Finance and IT leaders in a federated model to support enterprise outcomes.
– Provide a Group-wide view of the technology investment portfolio, supporting consistent prioritisation and funding decisions.
– Help develop and embed a consistent approach to assessing and tracking value from technology investment across SSE.
– Support clarity of ownership, decision-making and accountability across Group and Business Unit technology spend.
– Shape and challenge technology demand, ensuring investment proposals are clearly linked to business outcomes, strategic priorities and enterprise value.
– Build and lead a high-performing team, setting clear expectations on pace, quality and impact.
You have
– Significant post-qualified experience in finance leadership or business partnering roles.
– A strong track record of partnering with senior stakeholders to influence decision-making and deliver business outcomes.
– Experience operating successfully in complex, matrix or federated organisations.
– Strong commercial and financial analysis skills, with the ability to assess investment opportunities and trade-offs.
– The ability to translate complex technical or operational issues into clear business decisions.
– Experience managing large cost bases and supporting investment decision-making.
– Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
What will set you apart
– You bring curiosity and commercial insight, seeking to understand the business problem before debating the solution.
– You simplify complexity and help stakeholders make informed decisions.
– You challenge constructively, balancing support with appropriate rigour.
– You build trusted relationships and work effectively across organisational boundaries.
– You focus on outcomes and value, while recognising the practical realities of delivery.
– You are comfortable operating in ambiguity and helping bring clarity to competing priorities.
