Salary: £44,195 – £56,757 depending on skills and experience + car / cash allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What does the Subsea Electricity Cable Team do?

Sixty Scottish islands and the Isle of Wight are currently connected to the electricity network that serves mainland Great Britain by SSEN Distribution’s submarine electricity cables. The Subsea Electricity Cable team is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the efficiency and integrity of this network which comprises in excess of 120 subsea cables totalling over 450km.

We are currently undertaking a significant programme of investment spanning 2023 to 2028 covering cable inspection, maintenance and replacement. This will ensure a safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity to homes and businesses.

What is the Role? 

Our Large Capital Delivery (LCD) team are a pivotal resource to help us create a net zero world for tomorrow, while delivering a safe, resilient and responsive electricity distribution network for all our customers. In this role you’ll be working in a team where you will be responsible for securing, safe, robust land and property rights for subsea cables, particularly where these make landfall and connect into the wider electricity network by means of underground cables, overhead lines and ground mounted plant on both public and privately-owned land.

Your key responsibilities will include:

– To independently manage the negotiation and delivery of land and access rights for a portfolio of capital investment projects, customer connections, cable inspections and cable maintenance projects.

– To manage and ensure a high standard of service from consent contractors, where these are utilised, including directing and overseeing contractor’s negotiations relating to wayleaves, servitudes, land purchases, lease agreements, compensation events and access permissions.

– Develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

– Independently work to identify land rights related risks and devise an approach to report, mitigate and manage those risks.

– Proactively provide cost and risk information to inform setting and management of budgets and programme.

What do I need? 

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

– Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.

– Experience securing land rights – servitudes, land purchases, leases and access agreements.

– Experience of working with key stakeholders, such as The Crown Estate, landowners, tenants, agents, local authorities, national agencies.

– Good working knowledge of and application of land rights, planning process and land compensation principles.

– A full, current driving licence.

– A member of the RICS (or willing to work towards obtaining membership).

– Competency with GIS would be advantageous.
