The role

SSEN Transmission are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Operations Cable Engineer to join our dynamic Asset Management & Operations (AM&O) team.

In this vital role, you will play a key part in the delivery of the Operations & Maintenance of all HVDC Cable Systems currently in service, and those that are currently in project execution phase. You’ll also support the execution of HVDC Cable System Service Level Agreements for the AM&O team.

You will

– Lead Operations team engagement with HVDC Cable Projects at Gate stages, attending design review HAZID/HAZOP meetings to ensure Operations & Maintenance requirements are integrated, including route surveys for underground HVDC cables in development or design.

– Support the definition, execution and management of Service Level Agreements with various HVDC Cable Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partners. This includes preparing and reviewing Cable Repair Preparedness plans, verifying final records, and supporting spares inventory management for underground and subsea cables.

– Provide first point support for the coordination and supervision of Contractors performing fault location, emergency repairs and defect remedial works associated with underground and subsea HVDC cable systems & accessories. You will also support the witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests as required for new HVDC cable assets.

– Conduct regular site inspections and route surveys to ensure asset integrity is maintained, and that contractors and internal stakeholders are complying with industry HSE regulations, SSEN Safe Systems of Work, also CDM and ESQC Regulations.

– Support the review of any third party crossings/proximity requests on HVDC Cable assets, including review of crossing designs and ratings reports, liaising with Cable Engineering teams and supporting the drafting of legal agreements as required.

You have

– Experience in the design, manufacture or testing of HV Cables for use in HVAC or HVDC projects both onshore and offshore.

– Experience in performing or witnessing various cable fault location techniques (such as TDR, ICM etc).

– Experience or understanding of HV Cable system design and ratings (such as CYMCAP) and an understanding of IEC cable standards, CIGRE technical policies and ENA guidance for HV cable systems.

– Ability to deliver within challenging timescales, the ability to effectively prioritise, plan and organise, balance immediate and long-term business priorities.

– The ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through both verbal and written communication.

Please note due to the various location visits, a full drivers licence is required for this position.
