About our Business

In SSE Thermal, we’re responsible for SSE’s flexible generation, energy-from-waste and energy storage activities, with over 600 direct employees across the UK and Ireland. As part of our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions, we have a core focus on decarbonising our fleet through carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen technology. We are actively developing projects in the Humber and Scotland, which could become the UK’s first CCS-equipped power stations, while also exploring exciting opportunities in low-carbon hydrogen production, generation and storage.

About the Role

Base Location: Tarbert

Salary: €88,600 – €132,800 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

We have an exciting opportunity in SSE Thermal for a Peaking Plant Production Manager to support operations across multiple assets in Ireland. Reporting directly into the Director of Thermal Operations, you will provide a comprehensive engineering service that ensures the safe operation, reliability, continuous improvement and efficiency of plant and equipment in Rhode and Tawnaghmore with the possibility for this to be extended to other SSE sites in the future.

As a senior manager, you’ll have several areas of responsibility, including;

– Managing the assets to achieve an incident and injury free working environment, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

– Implementation of asset strategy and strategic management of the asset integrity of all sites.

– Definition and instruction of proactive maintenance and associated resource planning, budgeting and contractor management for site assets.

– Delivery and management of projects in alignment with SSE strategies including financial justification preparation, specification, design, procurement, implementation and commissioning.

– Engaging in the operational input to future projects in Platin and Tarbert.

What do I need?

– A relevant qualification in an engineering discipline, with management experience, ideally in the electricity supply industry or similar utility.

– Experience working at a Senior Leader level in an Operations and / or Maintenance role, coupled with a good understanding of the UK energy market.

– A high appreciation of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) performance with good knowledge of physical asset management activities.

– Demonstrable competence of managing budgets and contracts with key suppliers.

– Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with proficient organisation skills and a strength in developing and nourishing positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
