About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

SSE’s Solar and Battery Storage team is one of the fastest growing parts of SSE Group with an exciting multi-GW pipeline of projects in train and has recently joined SSE Renewables.

As a Project Development Engineer, you’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering design team in the evaluation of Energy Storage and Solar generation project opportunities, preparation of bids, development of conceptual and front-end engineering designs, and providing support during project delivery for a wide variety of complex projects.

– Your passion for engineering will drive you to embed innovation into the solutions which you will lead your design team to develop, such that you successfully optimise scope, cost, programme and risk for your projects, considering health, safety, and the environment throughout.

– You will work alongside others to help inform and influence senior stakeholders inside and outside of our business to successfully move your projects through the SSE’s investment making process. You will have the opportunity to grow as a professional individual while you help grow the business, and you will be supported in your personal development throughout.

– Your developing understanding of the energy market and that of the transmission and distribution networks combined with your engineering expertise will play a crucial role in driving and increasing our success, and in doing so, drive our business growth.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

– A broad understanding of all areas of the energy industry, in particular distributed energy technology, smart energy systems and transmission and distribution networks.

– Strong experience in the development and design of LV, MV and HV power networks; and/or the development and design of energy generation projects.

– Enthusiasm and be a highly motivated individual with effective written and spoken communication skills. You will have a flexible approach that lends itself to collaborating with colleagues and customers at a high level.

– An understanding of the UK energy market and regulations would be advantageous.

– Experience and a successful history of managing and interfacing with consultants and Engineering Procurement and Construction contractors is desirable.
