About the Roles: Senior Delivery Project Manager Opportunities
Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and these roles are no exception. We will however need your base ‘home’ location to be one of our SSE offices across Scotland (Inverness/Aberdeen/Perth/Glasgow). We would also be interested in applications from individuals in the Western Isles.
The projects are located in the Western Isles, with a requirement for regular site attendance during pre-construction activities and the main construction works to effectively manage the projects and oversee safety, health, welfare and environment requirements of the project.
Salary: £55,200 – £83,000 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The SSEN Transmission Offshore Delivery team is currently recruiting for a Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of high value AC projects delivering onshore overhead line, underground cables and substation packages for the Western Isles portfolio to directly facilitate Scotland’s ambitions to meet Net-Zero. Reporting to a Lead Project Manager, you will be responsible for the development of the delivery/procurement strategies and the award and management throughout delivery. You will play a pivotal role in the development of stakeholder relationships and lead in the successful planning, implementation and delivery of the execution phase, ensuring collaboration across the supply chain and managing project interfaces. Working closely with and guiding the project team to ensure safe delivery of the works to schedule and budget. The scale of our AC portfolio of projects is already large and is anticipated to grow in the coming years, creating great opportunities for progression within the Transmission business.
The key duties and responsibilities of this role will be:
– Accountable to the Business for the safety, health and wellbeing of all personnel, and for environmental aspects of those Transmission project activities being managed, including compliance with our framework behaviour charters and the CDM regulations.
– Preparation of the regulatory submissions to secure the project funding.
– Planning, monitoring, and controlling projects or packages in line with Project Execution Plans to ensure that these are executed to cost, schedule and quality.
– Development of the procurement strategy for your packages and accountable for all commercial aspects of delivery including contract negotiation, contract awards, and NEC contract management, ensuring that any disputes are escalated as appropriate for resolution. Accountable to the business for the budget and delivery of the project / package within this.
– Ensuring the use of recognised project management processes, reporting, methods, techniques and tools, in particular the application of our Large Capital Projects (LCP) Governance Framework Manual.
– Provide leadership and demonstrate our core values. Lead teams, ensuring these are highly competent, well-motivated, and organised to deliver consistent excellence. Take line management and mentoring responsibility for your direct reports to ensure they perform their required duties and are given all available opportunity to develop.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we’d love you to have:
– A proven track record of leading and safely delivering projects or programmes of work to cost, schedule and quality in the Transmission, Construction, Energy, or Civils industries. We are also interested in candidates with complex buildings / fit out experience – such as from the nuclear, healthcare, or pharmaceutical sectors.
– People management experience and a passion for safety, with an understanding of project management methodology and practice to lead a multi-discipline team to success; coupled with an engineering, construction, or project management qualification / degree or equivalent experience.
– Engineering or construction knowledge and understanding, including associated environmental and safety legislation e.g. CDM 2015 regulations combined with Contractual management experience (NEC3 experience is preferable), with the ability to forecast and control costs as well as develop and manage integrated project programmes.
– Experience of the governance, reporting, and management requirements for project and/or programmes of work in a regulated environment, with prior budget responsibilities, ideally £30m+ and confident in managing multiple project execution issues whilst analysing and prioritising key delivery risks and issues for the project on an ongoing basis.
– Experience managing and delivering pre-construction or Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) scope of works. Experience of successfully engaging with Contractors in advance of construction to achieve the greatest value for money, programme certainty and de-risking of project delivery.
